Introducing: The Piaget Polo 79 In White Gold With A Sodalite Dial
One of my absolute favorite watch releases in recent years is the Piaget Polo 79 — more specifically, the 2024 version in yellow gold. Later, Piaget introduced a white gold version, along with a bicolor model in white and yellow gold. Now, during Watches and Wonders 2026, Piaget introduces another Polo 79. But this time, the watch comes in white gold with a beautiful blue sodalite dial.
Piaget used stone dials (onyx and lapis lazuli) for the Polo in the past, but now, the brand introduces one with a sodalite dial. Sodalite forms as a naturally occurring mineral and displays a deep blue tone, typically marked by white veining. Each piece presents a different pattern, giving every dial a distinct look. For the Polo 79, it’s precisely cut to be combined with the 18K white gold gadroons.
The facts: Piaget Polo 79 in white gold with a sodalite dial
This new sodalite-dial version keeps the familiar 38mm size introduced with the modern Polo 79. With a 7.45mm thickness, this case continues the brand’s focus on slim, integrated designs. As Yves G. Piaget liked to say, “The entire philosophy behind the Piaget Polo can be summed up in a single sentence: it is a bracelet featuring a watch, not a watch featuring a bracelet.”
Piaget crafts both the case and the integrated bracelet from 18K white gold, reinforcing the Polo’s original concept as a bracelet-first watch. The signature gadroon pattern, defined by alternating brushed and polished horizontal ridges, runs seamlessly across the bracelet, case, and dial. In this version, Piaget pairs that structured surface with a sodalite stone dial, whose deep blue color and natural veining create contrast while preserving the linear rhythm of the design.
Inside the case lies Piaget’s in-house caliber 1200P1, an ultra-thin movement with a micro-rotor visible through the case back’s sapphire display. The movement drives only the central hour and minute hands, aligning with the model’s restrained layout and focus on style. Piaget positions this watch as an everyday piece, though its construction and specifications, including the modest 5-bar water resistance, place it closer to a dress watch than a sports model.
Piaget equips the bracelet with a butterfly clasp, maintaining the uninterrupted flow of the design on the wrist. The Piaget Polo 79 ref. G0A51151 is available through its boutiques for a retail price of €103,000.
Initial impressions
I’ve tried the yellow gold and white gold versions of the Polo 79, and they’re just awesome on the wrist. Piaget did such an amazing job in recreating the classic Polo watch! The original versions in the 1980s were for those who drove 911 Turbos and Ferraris, as well as guys who made sure to have an impressive mustache. The new Polo 79 models are made for today’s equivalent of those folks, along with people who want a taste of the 1980s. The new Piaget Polo 79 in white gold with a sodalite dial is nothing but stunning. I just need to find out what today’s equivalent of a white or black Ferrari Testarossa is…
