Make Sure To Wear Your Sunglasses At Night For The New Nomos Club Sport Neomatik Worldtimer Dark
During last year’s annual Nomos Forum, the brand from Glashütte presented the limited Club Sport Neomatik Worldtimer Nighttime Navigation series. The three references featured sunburst black dials with colorful accents. For this year’s Forum, Nomos keeps the lights down and presents the Club Sport Neomatik Worldtimer Dark. This time, the popular Worldtimer features a black enameled dial with a lumed off-white city ring and home-time sub-dial, as well as the usual lumed numerals and indexes.
The great news is that this new Nomos Club Sport Neomatik Worldtimer Dark joins the brand’s core collection. This means it will take its place alongside the sunburst blue and silver versions, just like the silver-white variant that debuted during Watches and Wonders. Let’s take a quick look at the core collection’s new member.
The Nomos Club Sport Neomatik Worldtimer Dark
In terms of dimensions, there are no surprises with the new Club Sport Worldtimer Dark. The fully polished stainless steel case still has a 40mm diameter, 9.9mm thickness, and 48mm length. This means it still has some of the relatively shortest lugs of all Nomos watches. The three-row Oyster-style bracelet features brushed outer links and polished center links. Thanks to quick-release spring bars, you can swap it out for another strap — one of Nomos’s excellent textile straps, for example.
Inside is the Nomos in-house DUW 3202 movement. This automatic caliber runs at 21,600 vph, features 37 jewels, and has a 42-hour power reserve. It shows the local time, the time in your hometown, and, if you like, the time in any of the 24 world cities listed around the dial. Simply pushing the button at 2 o’clock makes the hour hand jump forward in one-hour increments whenever you want to set the local time or check the other time zones (just make sure to click it all the way around to return to local time). Despite all its functions, the movement’s 4.8mm thickness makes the Nomos Club Sport Neomatik Worldtimer one of the slimmest multi-time watches on the market. And it’s not just called “Sport” for no reason; it’s water resistant to 100 meters.
The black-and-off-white Worldtimer
The new Nomos Club Sport Neomatik Worldtimer Dark features a black enamel dial with off-white printing and luminous hour markers. Surrounding this is an off-white city ring, and the home-time sub-dial is off-white as well. This sub-dial also features the classic blue-and-red Pan-Am-inspired ribbons. That way, it’s immediately clear you’re dealing with a multi-time watch. The time offsets on the black dial’s perimeter are red, which gives the watch a sportier character.
But the real highlight here is that all the off-white parts are luminous. Thanks to this, when you wear your Club Sport Worldtimer in the dark, you won’t have any trouble reading the time. At the time of writing this article, I’m still on my way to Glashütte, so I haven’t seen the watch in person yet. However, I can’t wait to do so and find out what that lume show looks like.
Initial impressions
When I first saw pictures of the new Nomos Club Sport Neomatik Worldtimer Dark, it reminded me of the limited-edition Nomos × Fratello Weltzeit watches and their two-tone dials. That’s certainly not a bad thing because I love that tuxedo-dial-inspired look. It makes the Club Sport Worldtimer a little more elegant, and it can also make watches look a tad smaller than they actually are. I’ll see if that’s true when I try out the watch during the Nomos Forum, but that would make the Club Sport Worldtimer better suited to smaller wrists.
As mentioned, the new Nomos Club Sport Neomatik Worldtimer Dark joins the brand’s core collection. Nomos offers the watch with a few options for straps and case backs. Prices start at €3,920 / US$5,140 / £3,920 with an all-steel case back and textile strap and increase to €4,400 / US$5,760 / £4,400 with a display case back and bracelet.
