Bon dia! We’re here in Barcelona because Omega invited us over to come take a look at how the Emirates Team New Zealand is preparing for the 37th edition of the America’s Cup. The world-famous regatta will start from here in exactly one year from now. To mark this occasion, a preliminary regatta will take place this weekend, close by in Vilanova. And to help the ETNZ crew defend their title, Omega introduces a new Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M Co-Axial Master Chronometer Chronograph. It has an all-ceramic case and is called the Deep Black ETNZ Edition.

But apart from supporting the Emirates Team New Zealand, Omega will also play an essential role as the official timekeeper of the America’s Cup. So what other watch to introduce than a Master Chronometer-certified chronograph, right? And, of course, the designers took their inspiration from the sail and the logo of the ETNZ team. That means you’ll find a lot of turquoise details all around the new Seamaster Planet Ocean. All right, let’s take a quick look!

Omega Planet Ocean 600M Co-Axial Master Chronometer Chronograph 45.5 mm Deep Black ETNZ Edition

The Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M Chronograph Deep Black ETNZ Edition

The 45.5mm × 52.4mm × 19mm case of the Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 600M Chronograph Deep Black ETNZ Edition is made from the deepest black ceramic. This scratch-resistant and light material makes this large case still very wearable for when you’re sailing around the world.

On the brushed black ceramic pushers, the helium escape valve, and the crown, you find the first turquoise details, referring to the ETNZ team color. But the real eye-catcher is that bright pre-race countdown indicator on the matte ceramic dial at three o’clock.

Its turquoise hand is big, and the matching chapter ring is bold, ensuring that it immediately grabs your attention. It also perfectly matches the turquoise minute track, the large, applied numeral at 12, and the chronograph hand that fades to white towards the counterweight shaped like an America’s Cup trophy. The black and white running seconds sub-dial at 9 o’clock, the date at 6 o’clock, and the digital hour counter within the minute register at 3 o’clock have a much more modest look. It’s clear that this watch is all about the regatta, and that’s exactly what it radiates.

The brushed black ceramic unidirectional bezel features a white enamel diving scale and a lume pip at 12 o’clock. That pip is filled with the same Super-LumiNova that’s also used on the applied hour markers and hands. Its green glow enables you to still time your race when it’s dark out in the middle of the ocean.

Master Chronometer caliber 9900

The turquoise theme continues on the case back with the Emirates Team New Zealand logo featuring a turquoise fern and white text. And because of the Naiad-locked case back, the logo will always face the right way. Underneath this solid case back, you’ll find Omega’s automatic chronograph caliber 9900. This movement has Omega’s Co-Axial escapement, is resistant to magnetic fields of up to 15,000 gauss, and has a rhodium-plated finish with Geneva waves. It runs at a 28,800vph frequency and offers a power reserve of up to 60 hours. It’s also a METAS-certified Master Chronometer, so it should be accurate between 0 and +5 seconds a day.
