Vacheron Constantin has just introduced a production version of its sporty Overseas titanium GMT model. The new Overseas Dual Time Cardinal Points builds on the foundation laid by the legendary limited edition “Everest” model from 2021. That watch was itself inspired by a one-of-one prototype in titanium and tantalum with a dark gray dial and a custom strap, made for adventurer/photographer Cory Richards. He famously wore the watch during his bid to summit the world’s tallest peak in 2019. For a small group of like-minded watch enthusiasts (among whom I count myself), these watches have garnered ultimate-grail status. The few examples available today on the pre-owned market currently fetch prices in the low six figures. Today, Vacheron answers the call for more with a subtly updated, standard-production reissue, available on both rubber and a full-titanium bracelet.

Though “Cardinal Points” replaces the “Everest” name for these new models, the spirit of adventure forged into the original (ref. 7910V/000T-B922) lives on. This is still a rugged, functional watch designed to be worn in and withstand the harshest environments. That said, this watch would look at home on the wrist of weekend adventurers and those who prefer to stay on the softer side of life. Regardless of how you slice it, there’s bound to be more than a handful of folks excited about this release.

The Vacheron Constantin Overseas Dual Time Cardinal Points

Each model features a 41mm titanium case (rated water resistant to 150 meters) paired with an integrated titanium bracelet. Titanium helps reduce overall weight while maintaining structural strength. The bezel, crown, and pusher ring feature a matte blasted finish, creating a darker look that contrasts with the brushed and polished elements. Of course, the Overseas collection’s notched Maltese-cross-inspired bezel design remains.

All four dial colors correspond to compass directions and associated landscapes. The white dial represents north, the brown dial south, the green dial west, and the blue dial east. All four share the same construction, combining a grained central section with a circular-brushed minute ring (new to this model) and a lacquered outer seconds track.

The applied hour markers and hands are made of 18K white gold, while orange accents highlight the dual-time hand and the AM/PM indicator. A total of six hands work in unison to indicate local time, home time, AM/PM, and the date.

The Overseas Dual Time Cardinal Points models come equipped with an integrated titanium bracelet featuring a triple-blade folding clasp. This bracelet includes the collection’s Easy-fit system, allowing quick micro-adjustments. VC also supplies each watch with two rubber straps, one in orange featuring a geometric pattern and another matching the dial color. The latter has a sailcloth-like texture with contrasting orange stitching. Both straps can be swapped without tools and come fitted with interchangeable titanium folding clasps.

A look inside

Inside the Overseas Dual Time Cardinal Points, you’ll find the Vacheron Constantin manufacture caliber 5110 DT/3. This self-winding movement provides dual-time functionality with an independently adjustable local-hour hand. A central arrow-tipped orange hand indicates home time, linked to the AM/PM indicator at 9 o’clock. The pointer-style date at 6 o’clock is synchronized with local time and adjusted via a dedicated pusher. The movement operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour and offers approximately 60 hours of power reserve.

A peek through the sapphire-equipped case back reveals the caliber 5110 DT/3’s dark gray finish, achieved through an NAC treatment. Decorative elements include Côtes de Genève on the bridges, perlage on the mainplate, and hand-beveled edges. The 22K gold oscillating weight features the Overseas compass rose motif. Gone is the 2021 LE’s depiction of Everest. Finally, it’s worth mentioning that these watches carry the Poinçon de Genève, indicating adherence to specific standards for finishing, assembly, and performance.

Inspired by exploration

The new Overseas Dual Time Cardinal Points models draw on Vacheron Constantin’s ongoing collaboration with photographer and explorer Cory Richards, whose 2019 Everest expedition helped shape the original titanium prototype that preceded these releases. For Richards, the concept behind the new series goes beyond geography. “What resonates most deeply is the idea that we are constantly in motion,” he explains. “Whether it’s an internal or external journey, it always leads us towards the cardinal points to guide our lives.”

Richards also emphasizes the emotional connection between travel and timekeeping, recalling how dual-time functionality played a role during expeditions. Reflecting on the original prototype, he describes checking the watch in extreme conditions and thinking about home. “This connection, this tether to another world…was so important,” he notes, adding that each of the new models echoes that initial experience. More broadly, Richards sees the watches as reminders of curiosity and exploration. “When I look at one of the cardinal points, I’m reminded to keep looking, to keep exploring,” he adds. “Curiosity is a way of being that just wants to know more… There’s no end to it.”

Final thoughts

To say the Vacheron Constantin Overseas Dual Time Cardinal Points is an exciting release would be an understatement. I’ve gone on record several times saying that the Dual Time Everest is my grail watch. But now, it no longer exists as an elusive limited edition. The original gave us a taste of the forbidden fruit that is this juxtaposition of function and luxury. And for those of us who were left craving more, it’s a welcome sight to see Vacheron revisit this chapter in its recent history. The price for the new Cardinal Points is set at €40,900 / US$41,000 / CHF 33,700.

Needless to say, I’ll endeavor to bring you a hands-on review of these watches myself, with plenty of pictures, as soon as I get a chance.
