Last year was a huge one for Vacheron Constantin, as the house celebrated its 270th anniversary. This occasion was highlighted with a string of special anniversary releases. Among them was the breathtaking Les Cabinotiers Solaria Ultra Grand Complication, which became the world’s most complicated wristwatch. But what could we expect from Vacheron Constantin after last year’s remarkable showing? Well, as it turns out, VC might just have some of the strongest releases of Watches and Wonders 2026. Among them are two new pink gold versions of the iconic Historiques American 1921. Let’s find out more.

It has been five years since we were treated to the brilliant platinum version of the Historiques American 1921. As Robert-Jan explained in his hands-on review, putting a Vacheron Constantin creation on your wrist is something special. Especially one of the brand’s modern reinterpretations of its classics will give you that special feeling of VC’s unique status. I had the pleasure of trying out that same platinum Historiques American 1921. It didn’t take long before I fell in love with the watch. Even as someone who has always frowned when a classic driving watch with a rotated dial met my eyes, I was sold instantly. The details, execution, and sophistication were truly special. As you will understand, then, I was happy to see Vacheron Constantin unveil two new Historiques American 1921 models for Watches and Wonders 2026.

The story of the Vacheron Constantin Historiques American 1921

As most of you will know, the watch that these modern versions are modeled after debuted in 1921 and immediately stood out. However, the brand had already released two earlier versions two years before that. In 1919, Vacheron Constantin unveiled a small series of watches with a cushion-shaped case, a dial offset by 45 degrees, radium-coated hands, and Arabic numerals. Additionally, it featured subsidiary seconds at 6 o’clock and the crown in the upper-right corner of the case.

Two years later, Vacheron Constantin produced a small series of the same watch for the American market. The timepieces featured an updated, more elegant dial featuring Arabic numerals painted on a white enamel backdrop, paired with matching black hands.

The revival of the Vacheron Constantin Historiques 1921

Over the past 18 years, Vacheron Constantin has revisited the American 1921 multiple times as part of the brand’s Historiques collection. The different versions came in various sizes and materials, but all displayed the striking elegance of this rather quirky driver’s watch. The first modern 40mm version joined the brand’s standard-production lineup in 2008.

Nine years later, Vacheron Constantin added a smaller 36.5mm version to the catalog. Then, in 2021, the brand introduced new variations in both sizes made of different materials to celebrate the centennial of the American 1921. Part of that lineup was the platinum limited edition that Robert-Jan reviewed. Additionally, there were two white gold models in 36.5mm and 40mm sizes, which are still in the collection. The cherry on top was a one-of-a-kind version, faithfully recreated as if it were 1921.

For this year’s Watches and Wonders, Vacheron Constantin brings back the Historiques American 1921 in pink gold. The duo consists of a smaller 36.5mm model and a larger 40mm version. Both feature the same stunning design execution and signature cushion case shape with its characteristic straight lugs. The smaller one has a mere 7.41mm thickness, while the larger version keeps a lithe 8.06mm profile. Both models, then, are very slender and easy to wear.

Inside each case lies a beautiful silver-tone dial with a grainy texture, blue Arabic numerals, and matching blued 18K gold hands. The dial’s periphery has a circular satin finish and also holds the blue railroad minute track. Lastly, the small seconds sub-dial matches the overall style beautifully and features concentric engraving for extra detail and refinement. Finishing the look is a dark blue patinated calfskin strap with a gradient effect and pink gold pin buckle.

The Vacheron Constantin 4400 AS

The reason that Vacheron Constantin is able to keep both watches nice and slim is thanks to its in-house caliber 4400 AS. This 2.8mm-slim manual-winding movement comprises 127 parts and is rotated inside the case to align the sub-seconds register and crown with the angled layout of the dial. The caliber operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour and offers a 65-hour power reserve.

Additionally, it is hand-finished meticulously. The caliber features Côtes de Genève decoration across its two large bridges and the balance cock supporting the free-sprung balance. On top of that, it features the famous Hallmark of Geneva. It’s a testament to the quality and provenance of the Historiques American 1921.

Final thoughts on the two new pink gold Vacheron Constantin Historiques American 1921 models

It’s great to see more versions of the Historiques American 1921 in the Vacheron Constantin collection. In either size, these two could be a perfect fit for men and women alike. Additionally, the combination of the pink gold case with the silver-tone dial with blue numerals and hands looks incredibly stylish. It accentuates the stature and elegance of the Historiques American 1921 as perhaps the most famous driver’s watch ever. On top of that, these two new releases show that sometimes you don’t need something completely new; you just need something really good.

Price-wise, we’re looking at €37,100 for the smaller model, and €45,000 for the 40mm reference.
