My new watchbox

My girlfriend bought me this box, suitable for 4 (large) watches. The Panerai is 44mm, the Sinn is 44mm as well I guess and the other two are 40mm. There was also a cloth with it to clean the box, it is made out of wood and has a sort of piano finish on it which makes it very shiny…

Oris’s tribute

yeah, to hat actually? It sounds a bit ridicilous to produce a military watch to tribute the end of the 2nd world war. However, there will be 1945 pieces (ww2 ended officially in 1945) available.

Although not my style (too sci-fi for me :-)) , I can appreciate the brand for being original!

Another quick note

I just saw this survey appearing on the Speedmaster Forum:

If you have some spare time, click here : http://www.questionpro.com/akira/TakeSurvey?id=230085

It seems to be a bit of a commercial ’scheme’, so you really mix up their outcome I guess :-)

A bit behind..

Hi,

I know, I am a bit behind schedule when it comes to the Fratellowatches blog, checking the several forums and other blogs ofcourse.

I have been busy last week(s). Well, that should never be an excuse to not be answering my hunger for watches, but I can’t come up with anything else.

My 28th birthday was on April 13th, but I celebrated it last weekend. Watchwise, I got very nice presents. A very very nice watchbox from my girlfriend Fleur. I will take pictures of it this weekend (and fill it with some of my watches) and post it online. Gerard (of co-editor and shopowner of Horloge Platform Nederland) got me watchpresents as well. A nice retro LED watch, with real LED’s (no LCD-like electronica) and a press kit of the latest Speedmaster Pro special, including a CD-ROM by Omega. The other presents were great as well, but since they are not watch related, I won’t bore you with them :-)

As for now, especially for the Dutch readers among us, here are some interesting links:

http://www.dezinvanluxe.nl is a new Dutch blog & forum on watches by Dale Vito and Steef Marcelissen.

Another interesting link is http://www.horlogenieuws.nl with all the latest news on watches and watch business. This site is maintained by Gerard Nijenbrinks.

So to keep things short again, I will be posting some news this weekend again.

Last time I went to a watchmeeting was P-Day #3 and before that the WatchUSeek meeting in The Hague. Yesterday there was a small GTG (Get ToGether) by some Dutch Paneristi. However, I couldn’t make it this time. I hope I can be there on the next meeting, since it is definately too long ago I attended a nice watchmeeting.

WHICH display…?

Display of the Porsche Design Indicator, found at the Porsche Design booth at the fair in Basel.

Indicator

Click the image to enlarge, and be able to read the text.

Car designers probably beter stick to car designing - a classic newbe error at a 70 grand watch isn’t very acceptable in my opinion.

‘Chronograph’ stupids, not ‘chronometer!

Gerard

As promised.

I just had my interview with Pierre Dubois, owner of Pierre DeRoche watches. A very interesting story of an interesting man and ditto watch brand (I will write a full article later). Although watch brand is a bit much to say; at the moment there are two models forseen, from which one - the rectangular Splitrock - will be available in June this year in two dial variations. The second model - the round Grandcliff (no pictures yet) - will most probably be available just before the end of the year in two dial variations as well.

Splitrock

I’m sorry for the big picture, but the watch is just BIG. I’ve tried it on and it wears, despite of it’s size, very comfortable because of the non-fixed and bending-over-your-wrist lugs.

As promised here is the price information. The Splitrock Concentric Chronograph will cost € 7.350,= (incl VAT) in stainless steel, and there will be a rose gold version available at € 19.680,=. The Grandcliff (which has a 60 minute chronograph register at 9 in stead of the normal 30 minutes, and a retrograde 12 hour totalisator) will cost € 6.300,= (incl VAT) in steel and € 18.620,= in gold.

I personally can’t wait get to get one ;-)

Very interesting interview at Omega

And now it’s really getting interesting…!

Totally in the back of hall 5.1, let’s say even behind the row which you think is the last one, is the booth of Pierre DeRoche (thanks for the tip Ernie Romers of www.watchuseek.com; I wouldn’t have found it myself).

Pierre DeRoche is owned by Pierre Dubois, a brother of the Dubois in Dubois Depraz. He invented a chronograph which indicates all chronograph functions in one single register (at the six o’clock position.

Chronograph Concentrique

Brilliant! A hughe watch though, which has something to show behind the glass back. Exclusive movement, of course produced by Dubois Depraz. Visit their website at http://www.pierrederoche.com and I’m afraid chances are big you want one. Tomorrow I’ll have an interview with Mr. Dubois, and by then I will have price information available as well.

Regards,

Gerard
