The new stainless steel hype started..

Until recently, there was a waiting list for the Submariner LV. These Submariners are easy to get now, the prices on the grey market have gone down to list price and the watches are sitting behind the windows of the authorized dealer again. However, the authorized dealers have set-up new waiting lists for the new stainless steel GMT-Master II and the Millgaus. At the grey market dealers, the new GMT-Master II watches fetch around 6K (Euro) and the list price will be around 5300 Euro. Some premium has to be paid to be one of the first owners of this watch. However, seeing pictures of a German meet&greet of Rolex collectors (www.r-l-x.de) it is obvious that people are able to get one fairly easy :-)

I really like the looks of the new GMT-Master II, although the bracelet seems to be a bit too small (/narrow) for the massive lugs on this watch.

p.s. I left the eternal waiting list for the ref.16520 Rolex Daytona out of this post. That waiting list is just ridiculous for years already.

Updates on the Steiner Limited watches

Steiner Limited watches, one of the few Dutch watch brands, have a new price tag as per 1 July 2007. One year after the introduction, the original (introduction) prices have gone up a bit. However, when purchasing a Steiner Limited you will also get a leather watch winder, a one-time opportunity to exchange the dial (with another color), to have the caseback engraved and to request a specific number from the 50 pieces of each limited watch (IF still available). Additionally, Steiner will always take the watch back if you want to exchange it for another watch.

Pricing in Euro is as follows:

- 39 mm stainless steel = 4500,-
- 42 mm stainless steel = 4750,-
- 39 mm rose gold = 10.000,-
- 42 mm rose gold = 10.500,-
- 39 mm white gold = 10.500,-
- 42 mm white gold = 11.000,-

There will also be a PVD Steiner Limited watch, called BlackOut, in 42mm for Euro 5950,-. Only 24 pieces available.

Catching up

After exactly one month of silence, I am back :-) Holiday, and especially moving, took (and takes) more time than I expected. My cableprovider still has problems to connect me to the internet in my new home, but luckily I have some unsecured wifi networks in the area.

I don’t know if you watched Wimbledon 2007, but I was surprised that Roger Federer was wearing a Rolex Daytona when he received his Wimbledon-cup. Ofcourse, the Maurice LaCroix sponsorship is over since 2006, but the love was purely a contract it seems ;-) By the way, he signed his sponsorship contract with Maurice LaCroix in 2004 for 5 years.. so it ended prematurely for whatever reason.

Then, on the 6th of July, a number of watches were stolen during a burglary in the Girard-Perregaux museum La Villa Marguerite. Watches worth several million Swiss Francs were taken after a couple of men entered the building and pretended to be deliverymen. A few hours after the burglary the police intercepted one escape car (the other one, a BMW X5, managed to escape from the road block). After the investigation of the crime suspects and their escape car, the police found the watches hidden in a big bag under an oak tree on the 9th of July. A weird but true story :-) (source: Europastar.com)

An oak tree.
